On behalf of Nebraska Nepalese Society, I want to personally thank each one of you for your time and support to NNS. I heartily thank everyone who has volunteered for the past ten years that NNS has been around. I feel honored to be the President of Nebraska Nepalese Society.

We are gearing towards a new term 2011-2012. Now it is this year’s board members’ responsibility to take NNS to a different level, and exceed the expectations of the people. When we work together; we can greatly increase our chances of success. Recently, NNS had its 10^th anniversary.

On January 28, 2012, Nebraska Nepalese Society celebrated Saraswati Puja at the Hindu Temple in Omaha. It was a day to celebrate the birthday of Saraswati – the goddess of learning.  We started the celebration with puja and bhajans. Children participated with great enthusiasm in worshiping their pens and books. They also wrote their name in Nepalese script to please the Goddess and get her blessing. After the puja, all the devotees gathered in the hall and prasad was distributed to all. We would like to thank everyone who came to mark the auspicious occasion. May Mata Saraswati bless us all with knowledge and wisdom.

Nebraska Nepalese Society has always been proactive in the promotion and preservation of Nepalese culture in Nebraska. Now, we are taking some new steps geared towards charitable work in Nepal.  As a first step we have donated $300 for the treatment of Sarita D.C, an 11 years old girl in Nepal who suffers a blood disease called ITP. Here is a video of our contact in Nepal handing over the money to Sarita’s mother.

We have formed a charity committee within NNS and will continue to help people in any way we can. We expect generous support from our community members like you.
