By-Nirakar Rajbhandari Nebraska Nepalese Society successfully organized the annual NNS Hoops Day amid the mass of basketball lovers. The tournament began on the 10th and concluded on 11th of March. This event marked its 8th season since its commencement in 2004. Like previous years, Team Nebraska and teams from other states including Team Wichita, Team Colorado, Team Dallas (Himalayan Hoops) and Dunking Hanuman participated in the tournament.

Arun Lama and Grishma Kandel emerged as the winners of NNS Talent show 2011 held at the Milo Bail Student Center of the University of Nebraska-Omaha on Sunday, June 11. Arun Lama will be representing NNS at the ANA convention in Washington D.C. Both Arun and Grishma faced tough competition from other contestants as the audience members were captivated by an array of performances. The participants were divided into above 10 years and under 10 years categories, with a winner selected from each category. The participants showcased their talents through melodious songs and graceful dances along with a sweet keyboard performance.

Saturday, May 14th, was a day of observance for hundreds of Hindu devotees of Nepalese Community in Nebraska. The morning started with about two hours of worship to Lord Satyanarayan (Lord Vishnu) in the Hindu temple of Omaha. Prasad was then served to all devotees in the social hall followed by bhajans. Thanks to all volunteers for bringing delicious Prasad to the puja. |

The New Year Celebration event on 16th April 2011 was a tremendous success. We had a very impressive turnout of attendees, who came to usher in the Nepali New Year 2068 at the Bellevue University. After the scrumptious Nepali food from Kurry Xpress delighted the palates, the attendees were treated to a variety of cultural performances including a special Dohori program.

Nebraska Nepalese Society organized Ladies Night Out on April 29th 2011 for all the ladies 21 years and above. The event had a very lively atmosphere with delicious snacks and variety of drinks to choose from. All the ladies had utter fun chatting, drinking and dancing the night away with songs played by the DJ for the night, Sujata Dhungel. In the meantime, Sanchita Sharma entertained the audience with some amusing jokes.

The Bowling Tournament that was held at West Lanes Bowl kicked started with 15 male players. The environment was filled with full of energy. Four groups was made and out of which top two scorers from each Group advanced to the next round. 8 players advancing to the semis were Sachin Shakya, Kavi Mainali, Rajeek Shakya and Prabin Sapkota in Group AB and other Group CD were Sachin Gurung, Arun Thapa, Sujan Bhandari and Sunil Pun.
