NNS Table Tennis Tournament 2012 News..
24 September 2012, Nebraska Nepalese Society (NNS) has successfully organized yet another fund raising sports event in 2012. This time it was everyone’s favourite-Ping pong tournament, which was the fourth sporting event, after soccer, organized by NNS in the year 2012. This event was organized in a league-cum-knockout format on 16th and 23rd September 2012. Altogether 18 players participated for both singles and doubles event, and were divided into 2 groups. The venues for the initial league games were provided to NNS, courtesy of Mr. Binay Regmi and Mr. Surendra Acharya. After a grueling round of league games played on 16th September, four players for singles’ and 4 teams for doubles’ events were selected from each group.
Red was in the air, and red all over, as red was the theme for the nite. Nepalese in Nebraska must have found themselves lucky to observe scores of gorgeous ladies donned in red sarees, under a single roof. This event was non other than our very own “Dar Party 2012” organized by Nebraska Nepalese Society (NNS). The culture of consuming Dar, is a long established hindu tradition which dates back centuries, and is generally celebrated in the eve of Teej, a religious and greatest festival for hindu women, who endures a day long fasting for the longevity of their husband.
Nebraska Nepalese Society organized its annual picnic on Saturday, August 11th at the Lake Manawa. The fun event, which is free to the community members, is a means of expressing our gratitude to our volunteers, supporters and well-wishers for their continued endorsement of Nebraska Nepalese Society’s activities.
There was a galore of fun activities for all ages to enjoy in the beautiful weather. While the kids were engrossed in the various games, competitions and face-painting, the adults enjoyed volleyball, soccer, and few couple’s games. Not to forget, there was plenty of food including delicious chicken barbeque for the attendees.

July 29, 2012, Nebraska Nepalese Society (NNS) proudly and successfully organized its 3rd annual NNS Soccer Tournament, in Papillion Soccer Complex from 21 July to 29th July 2012. The tournament was played in a league format, with the participation of 5 teams, namely Bhutanese Soccer Team, Bellevue City FC, Gunlao FC, Omahako Kheladi FC and West Omaha FC.
Bellevue FC, Bhutanese Soccer Team, Omahako Kheladi FC and Gunlao FC had progressed to the semifinals after securing top two positions in their respective groups. Bellevue City FC and Gunlao FC vied for the title after they had progressed to final by beating Omahako Kheladi FC by 4-0 and Bhutanese Soccer Team by 6-3 in their respective semifinals played on 28th July 2012.
April 23, 2012, Hundreds of Nepalese-culture lovers were expected to be desperate to celebrate NNS Nepali New Year 2069 event on the night of 21st April; exactly one week after it was cancelled because of the severe weather condition. As per our anticipation, a huge mass of internationals and Nepalese nationals flocked to Bellevue University Student Center to observe the long awaited NNS Nepali New Year 2069, and exchange New Year wishes among each other.
Nebraska Nepalese Society has always been proactive in the promotion and preservation of Nepalese culture in Nebraska. Now, we are taking some new steps geared towards charitable work in Nepal. As a first step we have donated $300 for the treatment of Sarita D.C, an 11 years old girl in Nepal who suffers a blood disease called ITP. NNS Hoops Day 2012 News
By-Nirakar Rajbhandari Nebraska Nepalese Society successfully organized the annual NNS Hoops Day amid the mass of basketball lovers. The tournament began on the 10th and concluded on 11th of March. This event marked its 8th season since its commencement in 2004. Like previous years, Team Nebraska and teams from other states including Team Wichita, Team Colorado, Team Dallas (Himalayan Hoops) and Dunking Hanuman participated in the tournament.
On January 28, 2012, Nebraska Nepalese Society celebrated Saraswati Puja at the Hindu Temple in Omaha. It was a day to celebrate the birthday of Saraswati – the goddess of learning. We started the celebration with puja and bhajans. Children participated with great enthusiasm
Nepalese in Nebraska welcomed New Year 2012 with a fabulous party at the Fort Crook Billiards on 31st December 2011. Nebraska's own Nepalese band “Mojo Rides” entertained the crowd with popular numbers at the beginning of the new year's eve bash.
